WE WON!
Jay Doyle, The Forward Party Mayor-Elect for the City of Georgetown SC
What I would like to do for Georgetown:
Attract businesses that provide full time jobs with benefits and a possible career path.
Reduce residential utility costs by mandating larger companies pay their fair share.
Annex properties abutting the city to increase tax base.
Create transparency in all departments in the city.
Further limit the number of short-term rentals to keep more units available for workforce housing: teachers, nurses, and workers etc.
Stop excessive incentives for developers.
Manage growth to match infrastructure capabilities.
Create a Revitalization Authority to rebuild areas in distress.
Clean up the harbor, install mooring balls, and have a harbor master monitor the harbor.
Create resource center that assists and informs citizens of government programs available to help weatherize homes.
Citizens of Georgetown,
First, let me extend to each of you my best wishes for the upcoming holiday season. May you find joy and happiness with your friends and family.
As my transition team assists me in preparing to take office in the new year, I want to keep you informed on what is happening in your city. I plan to make this a monthly event so you will be aware of what is happening and hopefully, you will involve yourself in helping the city move forward.
The bond for city hall has been passed by the city council and will close on Tuesday December 9, 2025. The current cost of City Hall is $7.7 million and I do not see the final cost exceeding that amount. Annual debt service will be $308,000.00. The first payment, equal to 1/12th of the annual amount, will be due January 1, 2026.
